Green Kežmarok Lake lies in the heart of the High Tatras, in the Biela Voda Kežmarok Valley. From the moment you begin your hike, you will feel how the surrounding nature starts to take on a wilder character. At first, you walk through a forest where traces of a 2004 hurricane are still visible. With each step, the environment becomes more rugged, and in the distance, towering peaks rise — the Small Kežmarok Peak, Durný Peak, Baranie Horny, Čierny Peak, and Jastrabia Turn. It’s a true feast for the eyes and soul!

Interesting Facts Along the Trail

  • The Damaged Forest: The trail initially passes through a forest that was devastated by a hurricane in 2004. As you pass through this section, you will notice the clear marks of this natural disaster.
  • The Cold Spring: On Rzeżuchowa Meadow, you’ll find a spring called the Cold Spring (Rzeżuchový Prameň). It’s a charming spot worth stopping by during a short break.
  • View of the Belianske Tatras: During your hike, you’ll get to admire the Belianske Tatras in the distance, whose beauty will surely leave you in awe.
  • Massive Walls of the Small Kežmarok Peak: The last section of the trail unveils a breathtaking view of the sheer walls of the Small Kežmarok Peak, which rise up to 900 meters in height.

Trail Overview

The trail begins at the paid parking lot on road no. 537, also known as the “Freedom Road.” From here, you will head towards Biela Voda Kežmarok. After about half an hour of walking, you will reach the first interesting point – the Biela Voda Kežmarok stream. Before you reach the Rzeżuchowa Meadow, the trail runs through the forest and alongside the stream, offering lovely views of the surrounding mountains.

On the meadow, you’ll find the Cold Spring (Rzeżuchový Prameň), and the trail branches into two paths – our yellow-marked trail leads uphill through the forest. Soon, the trail will bring you back to the stream, and after a few more minutes, you’ll be treated to a stunning view of Green Kežmarok Lake, surrounded by towering Tatra peaks.

The final section of the trail is nearly flat, and the beautiful landscapes make the journey feel quick. At the end of the trail, near the lake, you will find a shelter – the perfect spot for a rest.
