Trail Stages and Highlights
1. Kościeliska Valley and Mała Polana Ornaczańska
- Your adventure begins in Kościeliska Valley, where you’ll walk through Mała Polana Ornaczańska. This picturesque spot offers a fantastic view of the Bystra Massif – the highest peak of the Western Tatras.
- You will cross the Pyszniański Stream and then pass along the northern edge of Wielka Polana Ornaczańska before turning right into the forest. The trail gradually climbs and eventually leads you to Iwaniacka Pass (1459 m a.s.l.). The view from the pass is somewhat limited, but it’s worth stopping to admire the surrounding Kominiarski Peak and Tomanowa Pass.
2. Crossing the Ornak Ridge
- From Iwaniacka Pass, the trail ascends toward Ornak. You’ll face a steep climb through the forest, and later through a zone of mountain pine. Once you reach the Ornak Ridge, the stunning panorama of Bystra and Starorobociański Peak will unfold before your eyes. Along the way, you’ll pass points such as Suchy Wierch Ornaczański and Zadni Ornak, offering spectacular views of the nearby Kamienista Peak.
3. Ascent to Starorobociański Peak
- The final section is the most challenging. From Siwa Pass, you’ll have to overcome an elevation gain of over 350 meters. The path is steep and covered with loose gravel, requiring careful attention.
- Once you reach the summit of Starorobociański Peak (2176 m a.s.l.), you’ll be rewarded with one of the most breathtaking views in the Western Tatras. From the top, a 180-degree panorama unfolds, including views of the High Tatras, Bystra, and Ciemniak. This is a place that will stay with you forever.
