Trail Description – Step by Step

  • Kościeliska Valley (Mała Polana Ornaczańska) – Tomanowa Valley
    The trail begins at Mała Polana Ornaczańska. This is where the trail forks, and you will start by following the green trail towards Tomanowa Valley. The first part is an easy walk through the forest, taking about 45 minutes to reach the Tomanowa meadows – Niżnia and Wyżnia. From the meadow, you’ll be treated to stunning views of Tomanowy Wierch and Tomanowa Pass, two landmarks on the trail.
    • Tomanowa Valley
      As you continue, you’ll reach more meadows and another trail junction, where you’ll need to turn left. The path narrows here but remains manageable. Pay attention to the Red Ravine (Czerwony Żleb), known for its distinct red soil due to high iron content – a relic from former mining activities.

    • Chuda Przełączka (1851 m above sea level)
      After about an hour of walking, you’ll arrive at Chuda Przełączka. This is one of the most scenic points on the trail. From here, you get an excellent view of Krzesanica and Kominiarski Wierch, which will accompany you for most of the hike. The final stretch, Twardy Grzbiet, awaits you.

    • Twardy Grzbiet and Ciemniak
      The last stretch involves about 45 minutes of climbing to the summit of Ciemniak. Remember, the trail becomes steep in the higher sections, but the view from the top is well worth the effort.
