It’s worth taking a moment to rest at Mała Polana Ornaczańska, where the actual hike begins. You’ll need about 1.5 hours to walk through the valley before reaching the trailhead. The Path through Tomanowa Meadows
From Mała Polana Ornaczańska, follow the green trail towards Tomanowa Valley. The first part of the trail winds through the forest along Tomanowy Stream. After about 45 minutes, you will reach the Tomanowa Meadows, first the Lower and then the Upper Meadow. From here, at about 1400 m, the views of the Tomanowy Peak (1860 m) become more impressive, and the whole area takes on a majestic character. If you’re lucky, you might encounter herds of sheep grazing or, in the distance, see chamois climbing the rocky slopes.

Overgrown Path and Climbing through the Pine Shrubs
After about 30 minutes of walking, you reach a junction where the green trail turns left towards Ciemniak. However, the red-marked trail continues straight, leading to Tomanowa Pass. This is where the real challenge begins: the path becomes narrow and starts to be overgrown with pine shrubs.
As you navigate this “jungle,” be prepared for some tough sections – branches often hang over the trail, and the vegetation can sometimes make progress difficult. But these moments are also what make this trail unique, and the feeling of accomplishment at the end makes it all worthwhile.
At the Summit of Tomanowa Pass
After about 30 minutes of climbing through the pine shrubs, you suddenly emerge onto an open space – Tomanowa Pass. This is the moment you’ve been waiting for. From the pass, you get a spectacular view of the Slovak Tomanowa Liptovská Valley, which connects in the distance with Cicha Valley. On the left, you can see the majestic ridge stretching from Kasprowy Wierch to Świnica. On the right, in the distance, is the massif of Liptovské Kopce.
